And now I can couple to screw/3link stock (well, tender first anyway!). :)

My first 'screwlink' fitted wagon, a timber U van. Built it this afternoon as a test build for fitting the screwlink couplers.

Also fitted a working handbrake, and brass brake hoses. Actually, all three wagons in the pic have working handbrakes (only realised after I coupled them all up).

Very pleased with how the couplers have come out, looking forward to fitting a few more wagons with them :)

Have been working on the J class again lately, just about finished assembly :)

Very pleased with how it's turned out, although the solder is a bit rough in a few spots. I think the pipework was hitting the limits of my current skill level :) Would love to have a go at another one (maybe an oily) one day lol :)

What a day at Caufield! Caught up with a lot of new, and old, friends! Saw some fantastic layouts and got a lot of inspiration for my own :) Also took a few photos of some of the layouts there, and spent way too much...

BGM: K, Y
Auscision: 280 Walker (blue and silver), T320
VR Casts: F horsebox, OT wagon, and IB wagon
'Buffer Stop' (via LBAT): Derrick Crane
Trainbuilder: S301 number/name plates, drivers/guards pack
'VR Enthusiast': Number plates (lots of!)
SEM: Z van, 6 wheel underframe, M/I underframe, tow hooks, J class bogies, U van roof details, and some more buffers.
Other: Romford wheel nut driver, some more taper broaches, and the new Phoenix Foundry book.

Again, what a day. What an absolutely fantastic, exhausting day :)

Purchased a VR Casts IB wagon (among other things), which I decided to start building this afternoon. Decided to use Tichy Train Group rivets, as many hadn't cast properly. They're a bit oversize, and 'wonky', but over all I'm quite pleased with it :)

Please excuse the average 'instagram' pic.

A new item appeared a few months ago, from a company in Canada, which I decided to try out myself. Specifically, they are magnetic brake hoses, which give the impression of 'working' brake hoses (they 'couple' and uncouple).

Have fitted a T van and a GY, and they look quite good, and work reasonably well.

Image

They are quite tricky to align, and are fairly strong (requires a bit of 'hands on' or at least a 'shunting stick' to hold the wagon in place for them to decouple), but I'm actually rather happy with them now. Going to be a while before I get a decent train of them.

At the moment, I plan to fit out my 1950s stock as a trial. If I'm happy with them, then I'll do the J class and flat top T as well. Then might move on to the other stock in my collection. If mixing stock, it looks the same as what I currently have (ok, they're a little over length and don't just 'hang' straight down), so I'm not too fussed about slowly converting my stock if I can get them to work to my satisfaction :)

Picked up my latest model yesterday... A built VR Y class (BGM kit), $250 off ebay!!

Image

Needs a bit of work. Spent last night and today fitting pickups to the loco, and then it running on DCC, and putting an LED in the headlamp!

It will eventually be stripped (and likely rebuilt), then repainted as the paint is a little sad.
