Hi All
Like on the last forum, I'm gonna stick a thread in here for my model railway :)

First off, some background info. The layout is based of the classic 'inglenook' shunting puzzle, with the addition of a loco siding, and a slightly over length headshunt (to allow for different configurations of locos/rolling stock). The layout uses peco point motors, and is either DC (1 loco only) or DCC (more than 1 loco, to allow you to run around the train, in a sense).
I run everything under the 'zecrail' name, as I generally run fairly strange consists (CFCLA T377 with my VR 4 wheel stock, or my V class 2-8-0 with modern stock, or my BR Pendennis Castle with VR stock, and so on). I also do this as I plan to have a small amount of 'custom' stock.

The current operational locomotive roster is the following:
DCC:
VR S Class #301 (diesel)
VR B class #60
V/Line B class #84 - Tangerine livery
FA A class #85
CFCLA T class #377
VR T class #408
VR V class #515
VR V class #56 (running in one of the various ZR 'unpainted' liveries :P ) - still under construction, but being a shunter can be used as-is.
PRR SW7-Ph2 #9392 - Sound - currently being repaired under warranty :(

DC:
BR 4079 Pendennis Castle
LNER 4472 Flying Scotsman
FA T class #374

Current 'in service' rolling stock roster is:
VR GY wagon - 2 of
VR 'M' wagon (heavily modified) - 1 of
VR UB bogie louvre van
VR P explosives van
VR Z guards vans - 1 ZP
VR ZLP guards van
ZR WTF flat wagon, number 1517.
VR I/IA 'tommy bent' wagon
VR IY wagon
VR I wagons - 5 in operation, one with operational tarp bars and ability to take a solid bar to give a full tarp bar.
VR WT wagon
VR ELX wagons - 3 of
VR BW pass car
V/Line BS pass car
VR AS pass car - maroon and silver
VR QR wagon - 4 door
VR KMQ flat wagon

I will keep this list as up to date as possible...
Zec

and now, for some photos...
of course, I have to start with ZecRail's WTF wagon, number 1517...

The wagon is built from a spare GY underframe, the axle boxes left over from the UB van kit, some strip styrene, some other spare parts, 4 container lugs from R704's S flat wagon kit that he is building, and some brass rod for the brake shoes.

thank you :)

Just realised... The other 'custom' wagon in ZR is also in the second shot, it being the modified M van (probably to be reclassed as a 'hm' van :) ).

Thanks to Rod for letting me buy one off him :)

Also got a V class shunter kit at Healesville. Need to work a mech for it, but it is looking like a fairly nice kit to put together :)

hey
thats what i've been looking on the DLS for. they use in of those on passenger consists at the VGR
great model. i to have a model railway in HO, oh sorry, OO as then i used to be a BR steam enthusist. can't get any Powerline models or anything VR with the opperational 'automatic nuckle couplers' as they are 'TOO EXPENSIVE' apparently. don't want to spend much as i am saving up for a 120gb Ipod classic for when i go overseas later this year. oh well, i guess i'll have to save up more. once again zec, great model can't wait to see progress on your layout. happy modeling

cheers
Timo

Hey Zec, is the motor supplied for the V class or do you have to buy one? If so, do you know which one you have to buy? I'm looking at buying either a V class or M class at the next exhibition they're at (just looked too damn nice not to have :P)

Tom :)

you have to buy your own motor... Currently investigating what to put in it. Currently looks like I'll be using a Black Bug, with a jury rigged front axle. Thats so I can fit couplers. If you don't mind having fixed couplers, like the front of the SEM Derm, then you can get away with a modified black beetle... I'm hoping to also fit a DCC decoder to it.

For the M, he hasn't worked out a mech yet. Probable a black beetle, with a central dummy axle. You can't really see the side rods when the shunters boards are fitted, hence the kit isn't designed to have side rods...

I think if you want to put DCC in the V, you might need to look at a N scale decoder. Im not sure what other chips would fit in side it once the black bettle is in there. Another thought for a mech, have you had a look at Holywood Foundry?

Cheers
