I've heard from a few places including staff at southern cross that with the coming November new timetable, V/line passenger operations with the A class will cease. Of the four remaining with them, two are in storage with one needing an overhaul and the other two on a standby basis. For the last few years they have only been found regularly hauling the Bachus Marsh services however those are to be replaced by Ns and Vlocitys.

Anybody know more? These are apparently the last bulldog hauled passenger services in the western world.

A's are most likely going to be used as back up engines for the Warrnambool passenger as N class are starting to get faults from there age and constant use.

It shall be upsetting seeing the A classes going, as they were one of my favourites and loved the livery that they were set in as the Vline Blue, Red and White and the 'Cheeseburger' type livery...

Cheers,
Nathan

Such a shame, last bulldogs in passenger service in the world. I prefer the comfort of the sprinters on the stony point compared to the old, dirty MTH cars but I do miss the sound and look of the As (almost always A60) leading the train.
The Ns are just boxes and the Vlocitys, whilst somewhat interesting to look at, aren't as interesting as the old locos with lots of history behind them.

At least in trains the As can live on for longer and here's to wishful thinking that one of the two surviving Vline passenger As finds its way down here sometime somehow.
